VIRTUAL CONCERT FEATURING ORPHEUS MALE CHORUS OF PHOENIX WITH SOUNDS ACADEMY

We Rise Again, the theme of our 92nd season, is also the theme for Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix’s spring virtual concert we are performing along with the students from SOUNDS Academy. The concert, which will premiere online May 9 (Mother’s Day) will include several video performances from Orpheus. One of our selections will be We Rise Again, a favorite among many Orpheus singers and an appropriate theme as it symbolizes we will overcome the challenges of the pandemic to look forward to performing in person for you. Another selection will be Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” that will include strings accompaniment from several Sounds Academy students.

SOUNDS Academy is a non-profit music education organization that teaches, mentors, and provides musical experiences and opportunities for underserved youth. Students receive individual lessons, group classes, and perform on the violin, viola, cello, guitar, and piano. SOUNDS Academy began its work in September of 2014. It started with 10 students and 1 teacher. SOUNDS Academy now has 300 students in its School and SOLO Programs. They expose an additional 4,000 students to live performances through their Musical Access Program and Instrument Petting Zoos. More details about SOUNDS Academy are available at www.soundsacademy.org. While our concert is free, it is also an opportunity for our audience to donate to both SOUNDS Academy and Orpheus.

Information will be available at www.orpheus.org and www.facebook.com/orpheusmalechorusphoenix. The Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix made its debut on Christmas morning 1929 and has delighted audiences in venues large and small throughout Arizona and beyond with a diverse mix of classical and popular music. Orpheus is Arizona’s longest-standing, continuously performing choral arts organization. Orpheus was honored to be selected by the Western Conference of the American Choral Directors Association (WCACDA) to perform at their biennial meeting in March 2020 in Salt Lake City.
