One Voice Chorus (Richmond, VA) Appoints New Artistic Director

The Board of Directors of One Voice Chorus, Inc. of Richmond, VA is pleased to announce the appointment of John W. McLean, Jr. to serve as Artistic Director. Mr. McLean is the third director in the Chorus’ 20-year history. He brings a range of experience as director of professional, civic, academic, and church ensembles. He has served on the faculties of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Baylor University, and the University of Texas at Austin, and as the conductor of the Bell Civic Chorale, the Austin Vocal Arts Ensemble, and the Waco Symphony Chorus. Most recently, he served as Director of Music for Ebenezer Baptist Church in Richmond. “I am privileged to be the new Artistic Director of One Voice Chorus,” said Mr. McLean, “and I look forward to working with the Board and the members toward the fulfillment of OVC’s vital mission.”

One Voice Chorus was founded in 2002 by Barbara Baynham and Glen McCune (musical directors at traditionally African-American and European-American churches in Richmond) as an intentionally integrated adult chorus. By 2004, One Voice Chorus was incorporated as an independent 501(c)(3) charitable organization to bring a musically diverse range of excellent choral performances to people in the greater Richmond area. The mission of One Voice Chorus is to sing the power and beauty of diversity. We promote racial harmony through music and demonstrate there is more that unites us than divides us.
