The Cincinnati Children’s Choir (CCC) is proud to announce the Cincinnati Public School Honor Choir will premier during the World Choir Games.
Sunday, July 8, 2012
7:30 pm
Aronoff Center
Proctor & Gamble Hall
The Cincinnati Children’s Choir (CCC) has received a $10,000 gift from an anonymous donor to create the Cincinnati Public School (CPS) Honor Choir program. For the past 3 years, the Cincinnati Children’s Choir has collaborated with the CPS Fine Arts Council and CPS Gifted Coordinator, Betsy Singh, to establish this event. Two 5th or 6th grade boys or girls from each of the 43 CPS elementary schools will be invited to participate in this city-wide honor choir mentored by the Cincinnati Children’s Choir under the direction of the nationally known clinician/conductor, Robyn Lana. They will have 3 days of intense rehearsal and then present a gala performance. The culturally diverse students of the Honor Choir will be exposed to CCC’s philosophies and participate without financial requirement.
They will learn diverse repertoire of choral pieces from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds, which mirror the students’ heritages, and premier a commission by Rollo Dilworth, Associate Professor at Temple University and a nationally known and highly sought-after African-American composer, conductor and clinician. This piece will be used annually on the CPS Honor Choir gala concert and will be a song of pride for the city of Cincinnati, the United States of America and for choral music sharing. Additionally, Dr. Dilworth has agreed to be a guest clinician at one of the rehearsals as well as guest conductor at the gala.
CCC approached the 2012 World Choir Games for the opportunity to premier the CPS Honor Choir in concert during the Games and they have agreed to include the performance in the schedule of concerts and provide performance space at the Aronoff Center. Additionally, several international choirs will perform on this concert culminating in a piece sung by all choirs participating.
