WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Earlier this week, the 18th Street Singers were selected for the second year in a row to perform at the prestigious Piccolo Spoleto Festival, held annually in Charleston, S.C. Together with its coinciding sister festival, Spoleto Festival USA, the two-week festival is one of the largest and most recognized performing arts festivals in the nation.
In 2011, the Singers made their debut performance at the festival to rave reviews and a full house in St. Phillip's Episcopal Church. The concert also marked the world-premiere of "The Sound of the Waves," which the choir commissioned from young composer and friend Ola Gjeilo.
The 18th Street Singers is an ensemble of 20- and 30-somethings living, learning, and working in DC who come together with a passion for performance and a commitment to bring a fresh, spirited interpretation to traditional choral music.
