President and CEO Catherine Dehoney was invited the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) to present remarks on Chorus America's 2019 Chorus Impact Study: Singing For a Lifetime at NCCO's 8th National Conference (NCCO8), November 7-9 in College Park, Maryland.
Dehoney spoke to open a panel entitled “Considering Culture in Programming and Performance,” moderated by Wendy Moy, director of choral activities and music education at Connecticut College and co-artistic director of Chorosynthesis Singers. The panel included Jace Saplan, director of choral activities at the University of Hawai‘i; Kellori Dower, dean of fine and performing arts at Santa Ana College; and María Guinand, artistic director of Schola Cantorum of Venezuela.
Several Chorus America staff members also attended one of NCCO8's featured performances, which included the University of Texas at Arlington A Cappella Choir and invited guests The Aeolians of Oakwood University (pictured below).
The Chorus Impact Study: Singing for a Lifetime, released in June 2019, builds on previous Chorus Impact Study data about choral singers, and shows that choral singing in America is stronger than ever, with more than 54 million Americans singing in choruses. More information - including new downloadable infographics and a variety of tools to help choruses communicate the value of their work - is available on our Impact Study webpage.
