Chorus America Award Transitions to Grant

Chorus America Grants - score

A Chorus America award will transition to a grant program as part of a series of updates to Chorus America’s awards program.

The Dale Warland Singers Commission Grant, formerly the Dale Warland Singers Commission Award, will continue to support the creation of new choral music with a focus on funding future work rather than recognizing past achievement. The $10,000 grant, awarded in partnership with the American Composers Forum, will support a chorus entering into an artistically meaningful and mutually beneficial partnership with a composer to contribute a new work to the choral repertoire. Choruses will apply for the grant in partnership with a composer of their choice for a specific commission project.

The transition to a grant means a shift in the timeline for the previous award. Applications for the grant will open on October 2 and close on November 17. Eligibility will rotate through a three-year cycle, with applications accepted from children/youth choruses in the 2024 grants cycle. See the Dale Warland Singers Commission Grant page for additional details.

Transitioning this former award to a grant is the first step in a series of updates to Chorus America’s awards program. Based on recommendations from a task force convened by Chorus America’s board over the past year, the updates will align Chorus America’s awards program with our mission and vision as defined by the FY 2023-2025 Strategic Plan. We look forward to sharing more details about updates as we prepare to open award applications this November.
